From Replit to Caspio: Export, Rebuild, Import

To migrate a Replit app to Caspio, export your data as CSV files, have Caspi rebuild the app from a description of what it does, then import your data into the new app’s tables. Your existing app serves as the blueprint for the rebuild, helping you describe its screens, workflows, and access needs. Users, roles, and integrations are set up in Caspio, with no codebase to maintain, and an app your team can keep editing visually as your needs change. Best for: Teams with a working Replit Agent app, or a business app hand-built in Replit, that now needs real users, record level security, and annually certified compliance or a signed BAA, without a codebase to maintain.

Why Teams Move a Replit App to Caspio

Replit is a cloud development environment where Replit Agent turns a plain-language prompt into a working app, with a built-in database, sign-in, file storage, and publishing. Those strengths come with limits a production app has to answer: the result is a codebase someone must review and maintain, Replit does not publish a Business Associate Agreement (BAA), and its support engineers, available on Pro and Enterprise plans, are staffed Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific time. For a broader comparison, see how other platforms compare for business apps.

A Codebase Is a Maintenance Job

Any codebase, generated or hand-written, needs someone to review, patch, and maintain it after the original builder moves on. Replit's support policy notes that Agent can produce errors and that reviewing and refining the code remains the user's responsibility. Caspio builds apps directly on the platform, with no code artifact at any step. See how Caspio compares with Replit.

Production Apps Need Built-In Security

Real users need rules for who sees and changes which records, enforced every time. Caspio provides user roles and record level security at the platform level, with two-factor authentication, so access control is configured rather than coded.

Regulated Data Needs a BAA and Compliance

Moving a Replit app to a HIPAA-compliant platform requires a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA) and verified controls. Caspio signs a BAA through its HIPAA Edition, with annual independent certification of its HIPAA, SOC 2 Type II, and GDPR controls. Our guide explains Replit's HIPAA compliance limitations.

What Moves and What Gets Rebuilt

When you move a Replit app to production on Caspio, your data moves and the app is rebuilt natively: screens, logic, and access rules become platform configuration instead of code.

What moves from a Replit app to Caspio, and what gets rebuilt
In your Replit app In Caspio How
Data in Replit’s built-in database or another service Caspio tables Export each table as a CSV file, then import the records into the tables Caspi created
Table structure and relationships Caspio tables and relationships Recreated by Caspi from your description, not imported; review field types at import
Uploaded files in App Storage File and attachment fields Download each file from App Storage, then upload it to Caspio
User accounts Caspio Directories User records come with your data; add users one at a time or in bulk
Passwords Not carried over Users get Caspio sign-ins and set new passwords
Access rules in your code User roles and record level security Rebuilt as platform-enforced rules; Caspi generates roles you review in step 3
Screens and front-end code Forms, reports, and dashboards Rebuilt by Caspi from your description, not converted
Server code and Scheduled Deployments Triggered Actions and Scheduled Tasks Rebuilt as configuration
Integrations and APIs REST API, webhooks, Zapier, Make, n8n, and Keragon Reconnected and tested, with API keys re-entered
Git repository or downloaded code Reference only Shows your screens and logic; no code is imported
Hosting on Replit Managed by Caspio on AWS Nothing for your team to patch

Your Replit app isn’t wasted work; it’s the blueprint for rebuilding with Caspi. Use its screens, workflows, and access rules to describe what the new app needs to do, rather than define every requirement from scratch.

How to Migrate a Replit App to Caspio, Step by Step

Six steps take your app from Replit to Caspio, from inventory and data export to testing and launch.

Replit to Caspio Migration Diagram
Caspi creates the new tables first, so your exported data is imported after the rebuild. No code is imported or converted.

1. Inventory the app and export your data.

List screens, tables, fields, user types, integrations, scheduled jobs, and who can view or edit records. Find tables and fields under My Data in Replit's Database tool, and screens and logic in the app and code. Use this inventory in step 2 to describe the app and review roles. Select your live production database, then open Database studio under My Data and export each table as CSV. Download uploaded files from App Storage. Keep the Replit app and database until your data is in Caspio.

2. Rebuild the app with Caspi.

Open Caspi and describe your app using the inventory's table and field names. Caspi creates the data model, interface, and roles. Review roles and record level security rules for viewing and editing records, then approve. Caspio provisions all components at once. Add the Chat AI Agent to let signed-in users ask about app data within their permissions. For patient data, add the HIPAA Edition and sign a BAA with Caspio before any PHI is loaded.

3. Import your data.

Delete the sample records Caspi adds, then import each CSV into its matching table using Append, or Update when a unique field matches existing records. Review suggested field types and mappings before each import, then confirm related records line up.

4. Add users and grant access.

Add users to Caspio Directories individually or in bulk from your exported list, and assign each a role. Passwords do not carry over; users receive an activation email or set a new password. SAML SSO is available on select plans, and Caspio can act as an identity provider for your other applications.

5. Connect integrations and test.

Reconnect outside systems through Caspio integrations, including the REST API, webhooks, Zapier, Make, n8n, and Keragon for healthcare. Rebuild backend logic, such as Replit edge functions, as Triggered Actions and Scheduled Tasks. Test every workflow as each role before anyone switches over.

6. Go live.

Publish a fully hosted app or embed apps and components on your website or portal, then direct users to the new address. If Replit stayed in use during the rebuild, run a final export and import just before cutover to retain recent records. Once everyone has moved off Replit, retire the project on your schedule.

What Caspio Costs After You Migrate

Caspio Pricing After Migrate Image

Caspio pricing starts from $300/month, with unlimited app users in your Caspio apps on every plan. HIPAA compliance is a $500/month add-on on top of your plan rate (one-year term), so HIPAA-enabled plans run from $800/month total (TEAM + add-on). There is no free plan; every plan starts with a 14-day free trial.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Caspio does not import Replit code. Your data moves as CSV files, and Caspi rebuilds the app natively from a description of what it does. The result runs on the platform with roles, record level security, and hosting built in, with no codebase left for anyone to maintain.

Export each table as a CSV file from the production database, which holds your live records. In your Replit project, open the Database tool, select the production database, and use Database studio in My Data. Download each uploaded file from App Storage.

No. The export is point-and-click in Replit’s Database tool, with no Shell command or SQL needed. On the Caspio side, you describe the app to Caspi, review its proposal, and import CSV files through menus.

Yes, users set new passwords, because passwords do not carry over from Replit. Replit Auth keeps user records in your database, so they export with your data; add those users to Caspio Directories. Each user receives an activation email or resets their password.

Yes. Add the HIPAA Edition, sign the BAA with Caspio, and load protected health information (PHI) only after the agreement is in place. That moves your Replit app to a HIPAA-compliant platform whose HIPAA, SOC 2 Type II, and GDPR controls are independently certified annually.

Yes. Keep the Replit app and its database running while Caspi rebuilds it, then run a final export and import just before cutover so no recent records are left behind.
